Apply a shaving cream. Pretty much any shaving cream or gel will work fine, but you definitely should use something. It’s job is to help cushion the blade, as well as helping the blade glide smoothly and avoid skipping along your skin in a way that could cause nicks. It also holds onto the cut bits of stubble so they don’t clog the razor. You may want to apply in sections, so it doesn’t dry out before you reach it - maybe just the face in one pass, and the neck in another.
